The team does not learn about an Obeya.
It builds one.
In Basic Obeya the team builds its own board: with its own goals, its own lanes and its own agreements for the meeting. At the end the team runs its first real Obeya.
What Basic Obeya looks like
We settle the programme together, the team appoints the Navigators and we make agreements about the board.
For everyone. Where the meeting gets stuck now, where Obeya comes from and the board step by step, directly in the software.
First an e-learning about the role, then a full day of practice. That way they can guide parts of the training days themselves.
Starting from management's vision the team creates the lanes, with a vision per lane. It practises a first meeting and writes its own golden rules.
With an e-learning each lane works on its vision, three goals and the steps per month. We read along and give feedback.
The goals are tested and put on the board together. The team learns how to tackle a problem that is stuck, and runs its first real Obeya.
We join your own Obeya once and look at what is still needed.
You do the theory beforehand. In the room we do the real work.
The first round deliberately runs without rules. What the team discovers there becomes the framework. The golden rules at the end are in the team's own words.
In the e-learning participants work directly in the software. The board starts empty and grows step by step.
What a participant makes in the e-learning comes back on the training day. Nobody starts over twice.
Someone has to keep seeing the whole
The board shows where you stand. The Navigator makes sure something happens with it. An Obeya does not work by itself. Someone is needed who sees when the conversation drifts, when a goal comes loose from the work or when a decision is left hanging. That is the Navigator. Not a chair who works through an agenda, but someone from the team who prepares the meeting, guards the conversation and makes sure agreements are followed up.
In Basic Obeya three or four Navigators are trained. They already guide parts of the training days and afterwards they run the team's meeting.
What is there at the end
- Lanes with a vision of their own, derived from management's vision.
- Three goals per lane, with a name and a moment, and the steps per month.
- Golden rules for the meeting, in the team's own words.
- A fixed agenda and a rhythm that fits.
- Three or four trained Navigators.
- A filled board in the software, that the team can carry straight on with.
- A certificate for everyone who completed the whole track.
Who it is for
For teams of up to twenty people, in any organisation. Managers simply take part in the e-learning and the training days. The training takes place at your own location.
